WFGM’s Young Women’s Initiative Builds Momentum in February Meeting
WFGM’s Young Women’s Initiative (YWI-Memphis) continues to build momentum as 21 members have officially been oriented into the 2025–2026 cohort. The initiative, designed to be girl-led from start to finish, centers the voices of young women and girls of color ages 12–24 as they work to increase equal access to opportunity, economic security, safety, and leadership.
Throughout the orientation process, participants identified key issues and activities they are passionate about addressing this year. Their ideas have shaped a cohort-driven action plan that outlines priorities, engagement opportunities, and measurable objectives for the months ahead.
On Monday, February 16, 2026, WFGM led a philanthropic training session focused on leadership development, philanthropy, and actionable next steps. During this session, YWI members gained tools and insight to prepare for participatory grantmaking taking place this spring—an opportunity for them to directly influence funding decisions that impact their communities.
Looking ahead, YWI members are planning to participate in Bold and Brave Advocacy Day on the Hill in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. This experience will provide hands-on advocacy exposure and an opportunity to elevate the voices of young women at the state level.
Additionally, lead partner YWCA, with support from WFGM, is recruiting members for the Young Women’s Advisory Council Mentoring Committee, further expanding leadership pathways for participants.
Through intentional leadership development, advocacy engagement, and girl-led philanthropy, YWI-Memphis continues to equip young women with the confidence, skills, and platform to create meaningful change in their communities.
