Serving Families Through the Food and Essentials Hub

By bringing together diverse voices and perspectives, we're fostering collaboration and driving innovative solutions to address the most pressing challenges faced by women and families today. For the past few months, WFGM has been dedicated to meeting the needs of families in our community through the new Food and Essentials Hub at Booker T. Washington Community School.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in the Memphis metropolitan area, an estimated 39% of families where a woman is the head of the household live below the poverty line.

To help address this, we launched the Food and Essentials Hub on February 28th in collaboration with FedEx, Feed the Children and Memphis-Shelby County Schools. We are thrilled to make this vision a reality for South City. The Food and Essentials Hub ensures that thousands of students and families have the essential resources they need to thrive, not just survive.

“With this type of collaboration, the sky's the limit,” said Shante K. Avant, WFGM President and CEO. "It creates the perfect opportunity for us to serve a real need within our communities. We're so grateful that we have the opportunity to partner with Feed the Children, FedEx and MSCS so we’re able to carry out our mission of reducing poverty in one of the most economically-challenged zip codes in the city of Memphis."
