International Women's Day
Today, March 8, is International Women’s Day (IWD) ─ a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
This year’s theme is #EmbraceEquity. At the Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis (WFGM), we #EmbraceEquity to create spaces and places where women thrive. Our mission includes helping women and children in the greater Memphis area reach their full potential and we couldn’t do it without equitable action. Since 1996, we have awarded $35 Million to 182 local non-profits and programs including investments in advocacy and research to support opportunities for women and girls to live in safety and security.
WFGM demonstrates philanthropy, leadership, and collaboration to advance the economic and social mobility of women and girls by investing in women and women-led organizations that demonstrate their leadership within low-income communities. We believe in grassroots engagement that brings grantee partner organizations, community leaders, and residents together to learn and share collective concerns to ultimately identify solutions ─ together.
Additionally, WFGM invests in leadership development for young women and girls of color through our Young Women’s Initiative (YWI) to provide a continuum of equity and growth. YWI provides opportunities for engaging participants in activities centered around philanthropy, leadership and community service.
Make a gift to WFGM to #EmbraceEquity and help us invest in pathways and access to social and economic mobility for women and families through the coordination of services with community-based organizations to:
- Increase earned income for women
- Build an equitable labor force
- Create a more equitable world for women
