As an actress, advocate and storyteller, Essence Atkins uses her voice to empower and encourage women and youth. She is passionate about ensuring the most vulnerable are seen and have access to opportunities. Essence believes communities can thrive when we all take part in working to help change systems that stand as barriers.

Her love for supporting youth led her to create a registered homeschool, RiSon Village, during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic. Inspired by her commitment to educating her son, she founded the school and transformed her guest house into a modern classroom and safe haven for families. She continues to serve her community as the school's visionary leader.

Essence got her acting start in the mid-1990s and has been a constant presence in our living rooms. Her long-standing career in television includes roles on "Smart Guy," "Are We There Yet?" and "Half & Half." Her more recent roles were in the dramas "Marlon," "Ambitious" and "Under One Roof." Throughout the years she has grown to love all aspects of the entertainment business. Her passion for storytelling led her to a new role—Producer—of popular web series and dramas.
