Call for 2013 Legends Award Nominations

Organization Seeking Legendary Women

Memphis, TN – The Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis announces the call for nominations for the 2013 Legends Award. Nominations are encouraged for women who demonstrate outstanding achievement, community commitment and exemplary leadership. Ideal candidates will personify the mission of the Women’s Foundation and inspire others to strive for a better community for all. Monday, December 10, 2012 is the deadline to submit nominations.

The Legends Award applauds Honorees, whose visionary and innovative work is paramount in their specialized areas of service and philanthropy. Local renowned Artists and Writers will create works of art and prose that personify the Legends Award Honorees’ lifetime accomplishments and contributions to Memphis and beyond. The celebration and unveiling will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Legends Award Reception, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Since 2009, 21 women have received this distinctive award. The 2012 Honorees were Judge Bernice B. Donald, Velma Lois Jones, Sylvia Goldsmith Marks, Dorothy Gunther Pugh and Dr. Shirley C. Raines. Their stories were captured in design by artists Darlene Newman, Siphne A. Silve, Erin Harmon, Eszter Sziksz and Sunny Montgomery. Written accounts by Cathryn Stout, Sonia L. Walker, Sharon Wheeler, Ellen Rolfes, and Lynda Sagrestano portrayed the Honorees’ stories of determination and passion.
